What is the correction of texts?

We have all read a book in our lives, but few people know all the work behind the creation of the book, whether published by editorial or self-publishing. At this point, the correlation fees for texts offered by a group of professionals from publishers who publish books are included in a leading role.

It is generally thought that correcting a text is simply like editing a video or a photo, putting the finishing touches to the aesthetic form (cover, type of paper, typography, etc.). However, there are many other things behind the authority of the writer. So we go with all the steps involved in the work of the publisher.

Reception and review of the material

This step is carried out by the author, since this is the one who is interested in publishing his work. Depending on the content of your book (if it is literature, if it is a book of chronicles, an educational text, among other various kinds of books) you will go to a different publisher. Text correction begins with the revision. If the words of the writer convince the people of the publisher, we proceed with the revision. Usually this is done in the presence of the writer, or seek all errors committed in syntax, form or semantics and the writer is commented. At this point the writer clarifies whether there are mistakes committed intentionally or not. And continue with other steps.

Syntax correction

The syntax correction is the way in which words are positioned in a sentence. Considering that a writer can spend hours writing without rest, it is very likely that there are errors in the writing. For example: She was eaten. Verbal tenses do not agree with the subject, the corrector of texts corrects these errors and move on to the next phase.

Edition in the form

The form is more related to the semantic load. In linguistics this is known as a linguistic sign that is formed by the meaning and the signifier. Basically what is said (meaning) and how it is said (significant). In this case, the person in charge of the work seeks to give a more aesthetic connotation to the book (in case of being literature or fiction) and more technical or less abstract (in case of being more oriented to the hard sciences). An example of this could be a book of quantum physics. Said book should say: According to this theory, the universe is infinite. And it should not appear as: This is the wonderful theorem that affirms the infinity of the black fabric in which we live. Science and metaphors do not get along.

Depending on the success of the work, it can be requested to be translated by a publisher. In this case, the publisher and translator must keep the meaning and the signifier. There are many occasions in which it is almost impossible to do so, poetry is one of the types of writings that can not be translated without losing essence in the process. With educational, instructive and informative texts it is much easier than with literary texts or even essays.
